East Coast Trip

January 11th, 2010

Thank goodness for my cousin Wanda for keeping me on point !

I’ve been meaning to post this video and some pictures from my east coast trip for a long time, just never sat down and did it.

I, of course, had a GREAT time seeing my east coast family – it has been way to long since I was home (I think we figured it was about 15 years). That length of time away won’t happen again – I promise you that.

Enjoy the video & photos

Halloween 2009

November 1st, 2009

We’ve definitely kicked off the holiday season with a splash this year.

Jen did the very cool surprise party for me at the Amber House, we then attended a little neighborhood Halloween party where I ate almost everything that was on the table and Jen participated in a bit of karaoke (I did get pictures, but sorry no video).

Then we ended the weekend by celebrating Dad’s birthday with friends and family here at our house. I’m not sure it get’s any better than it is, but if it does…I can’t wait !!

Enjoy these pictures.

Donner Lake 2009

August 2nd, 2009

We finally were able to do our annual trip up to the Sharp cabin at Donner Lake – we were originally supposed to go in the Winter time (around the time Isaiah was sick).

The weather was nice, the company was great and it was a great time had by all.

We’re All Riding Bikes Now

July 20th, 2009

Jordan has taught herself how to ride a bike.

Jen & I did a few sessions of holding on to the back of her bike and running along side. That was a good motivational start, but the very next day, she got on a smaller bike, put her helmet on and blazed up and down the street.

Since then it’s been no stopping her from wanting to ride her bike. She’s managed to get comfortable on her full-sized bike and is doing really well.

Now we just have to get Isaiah off the scooter and on his bike.

Here’s the close to 2 mile trail we blazed a few nights ago.

Good Memories

A bit of reminiscing here…

I sat with Jen and the kids tonight and watched the video from our 2007 cruise. A lot of good memories

Kawasaki Disease

March 28th, 2009

Isaiah

That’s what we went through with Isaiah.

Kawasaki Disease is a strange, to say the least, phenomenon. There is no real understood cause, but it is somewhat prevalent (one of the doctors at our hospital said there are atleast 2 cases per month that come their way).

For some background on the Kawasaki Disease check out the definition here.

Isaiah started feeling bad late last Sunday and had all of the following symptoms after that first night of throwing up multiple times:

  • High-grade fever (greater than 39 °C or 102 °F; often as high as 40 °C or 104 °F) that normally lasts for more than 5 days if left untreated.
  • Red eyes (conjunctivitis) without pus or drainage, also known as “conjunctival injection”
  • Bright red, chapped, or cracked lips
  • Red mucous membranes in the mouth
  • Strawberry tongue, white coating on the tongue or prominent red bumps (papillae) on the back of the tongue
  • Red palms of the hands and the soles of the feet
  • Rash which may take many forms, but not vesicular (blister-like), on the trunk
  • Swollen lymph nodes (frequently only one lymph node is swollen), particularly in the neck area
  • Joint pain (arthralgia) and swelling, frequently symmetrical
  • Irritability
  • Tachycardia (rapid heart beat)
  • Peeling (desquamation) palms and soles (later in the illness); peeling may begin around the nails
  • Beau’s lines (transverse grooves on nails)

We ended up taking him to the doctor Monday morning to see what was going on and immediately our pediatrician diagnosed Isaiah with Kawasaki’s. After a series of blood work, which was traumatic in itself for our little guy, he was immediately admitted to the hospital and thus began the Week From Hell.

The primary treatment for Kawasaki’s is an immunoglobulin IV drip for 12 hours and a echocardiogram to check for swelling of the of the arteries pushing blood to and from the heart.

We spent a few nights in the hospital watching and monitoring his status. Isaiah did have an unfortunate relapse of a fever that caused everyone, especially him, a great deal of stress.

After close observation, and a successful extended treatment. We were finally given a clean bill of health and allowed to bring Isaiah home early Saturday afternoon. As I write this post, I am happy to say that we spent the majority of the day Saturday playing, eating, and laughing. He’s back to his normal self of swinging Star Wars Light Sabers and watching Ben-10 cartoons.

Jen and I want to personally say thank you to everyone who has sent a word of encouragement, a quick prayer, a thoughtful text message, or who stopped by the hospital to sit for a moment. I, as many of you know, am a pretty private and sentimental person and didn’t speak too much outside of our immediate circle, but I must say that my new Online Extended Family has won a special place in my heart….thank you !

The nurses and doctors that worked with us were fantastic as well, and we owe them, and you our friends and family, our deepest gratitude.

News Update

November 18th, 2008

Hey ya’ll. Sorry I’ve been letting this site lag a bit. I’ve been working so hard on the other sites I have up:

In between those 3 sites which I’m striving to actually make revenue from, work, and keeping in step with the family, there undoubtedly are a few things that will slip.

But, needless to say, here I am with an update.

Since last I wrote, Miss Jordan has finished yet another season of soccer. This season was actually much better in a few ways; Jo actually played and kicked the ball in the right direction, and her team actually won quite a few games. As most of you know, I was not able to coach this season due my work schedule, but we’ll see how it works out next year. Next for sports is probably some T-ball for Isaiah.

Isaiah is doing great over at Ms. Mary’s Little Lambs School. Jen and I love the fact that it’s right here in our neighborhood as well.

Next, Jen flashed back to the 80’s a few times. Once was a Journey concert (which I actually went to as well), and the other was to see New Kids on the Block; I was NOT in attendance at that particular show thank you very muchNKOTB

Apple Hill was great and all the pictures are posted up in the photo gallery.

Hicks Apple Hill

The annual tradition of celebrating Dad’s birthday at our house on Halloween was special as always.

The presidential election was, and still is a surreal experience that I continue to keep fresh in my mind and writings daily. If you didn’t get a chance to see the article I wrote after the election check it out here. I’m taking this call to service and participation quite seriously.

At this point, we’re just getting ready for the non-stop action that is the holiday season. Thanksgiving is around the corner and before you know it, I’ll be hanging lights on the roof hoping that I don’t fall off.

Thanks for listening.

MaDa: Six Flags

A good buddy of mine that I used to work for, and was actually in our wedding, Ken. Well he and his wife have a family tradition called MaDa; which stands for Mom and Dad Adventure.

Jen and I have been wanting to do one of these for the longest time since I told her what the concept was – basically we surprise the kids with a family outing (they have no idea what it is until we get there). Seems spontaneous for the kids and allows Mom & Dad to have fun planning a get away.

Well, we finally did one after….5 years. We went to Discovery Kingdom down in Vallejo. We had a great time. It was nice that Grandma and Grandad got to join in on the fun too.
